The standard of medical care on the Island of Bali has certainly improved over the years. Any serious medical issues would require evacuation to Singapore, Darwin or even Bangkok.
A word of warning about using private hospitals on Bali. Even by western standards they are not cheap. Don't think that just because your hotel room os a fraction of the price of one in London means everything else will be a fraction the price. Any medical procedures carried out by these hospitals will expensive. There is a public hospital on Bali in Denpasar but most tourists and expats prefer the private ones. It is crucial that you have comprehensive travel insurance for Bali so don't leave home without it.
